Some Tips On Selling On The Internet: Okay, let's say you have people coming to your site. What do you need to say to get them interested? Well, if I knew all the answers then I'd be a guru and be making millions doing seminars and infomercials. Again, I'll just give you some things NOT to do first based on personal experience.
Keep things simple. I went to a site that advertised some money making program and never found out what it was because it had JAVA animations and kept "loading..." and "loading..." and then there were slow transitions between pictures of old people and houses and slow, ponderous music and then... who knows? I didn't stay long enough to find out. They expected me to sit through tons of graphics to find out what they were selling? Not on this planet. I wouldn't put up with that on a site I wanted to go to.
When you make your web page, if you're a beginner, you should make TWO pages. Make the first one with tons of graphics and animations and sparkles and scrolling text and lots of fun stuff and get it out of your system! Most people don't have T1 connections and some don't even have 56k connections. You can post the first site on Angelfire or some place like that, as a fun personal site. For your second site, you need to keep it simple and business like and don't let animations and goofy special effects stop people from seeing what you have to say.
I have a links page with some sites that go into detail about how to create web sites and mistakes to avoid. Even if you already have a site, the odds are that it can be improved. I don't claim to be an expert but I think this site works well enough. A logo and a border graphic and just text. Loads fairly fast and using the same graphics for every page saves loading time because most browsers cache files so its already on your computer rather than having to download from the server.
And don't go overboard with banners. I know that banners help to pay for a site if you're not using a free one. But too many banners spoil the broth. It'll slow down the speed that your page loads and can be pretty distracting too. Get a few banners that link to places that pay you well. You can find some good deals where they don't pay per click but you get a commission when anyone buys something after going there from your site. One sale like that is worth hundreds of clicks with pay per click programs.
Other things you need to do. Explain everything clearly. Whatever you're selling, you have to make it simple enough for everyone to understand what you're selling and what benefits it has. If its the Carmglo Miracle McGuffin, tell them what the McGuffin does and what it doesn't do. A little exaggeration is natural but don't claim it can increase my gas mileage by fifty percent unless you have documented proof and charts and graphs posted on your site with the names of people to contact to double check on you. HONESTY is the best policy and tends to get people to come back and buy something else.
Which is the last thing. Its like being an author. You sell your first book and if it sells, the publisher wants another one right away. The sooner the better before the public forgets about you. With selling products, you can have a second product already set up to go and sell to a satisfied customer. Or bunches of them if you're an affiliate of several companies. Making a sale is hard enough without letting go of a good customer.
I've barely touched the subject of internet marketing here. Just a few thoughts and ideas I've had in dealing with people on line trying to sell me things. You really need marketing information from a pro. Someone who makes a six figure income working from home. And on the next page, you'll get your chance to learn from one yourself!
